Let’s go back in time a bit. Barack Obama’s dad, also named Barack, was a goat herder in Kenya, far, far away. He got a special chance to study in the United States and later became a smart person helping Kenya. Barack’s mom, Ann, grew up in different places like Kansas, Texas, and Washington, but she settled in Honolulu.

Early Years
When Barack was just two years old, his dad went to a big university called Harvard. After a little while, his mom and dad decided not to be together anymore. Barack lived in Hawaii with his mom and sometimes with his grandparents. Later, his mom got married again, and Barack had a new sister named Maya.
Life in Indonesia
Barack went to live in a place called Jakarta in Indonesia for some time. He had a little sister, a mom, and a stepdad. There, he went to schools where he learned different things, like Islam and Christianity.
Back to Hawaii
In 1971, Barack came back to Hawaii. Sometimes he lived with his grandparents, and sometimes with his mom. They weren’t super rich, but they had a nice life.
School Days
Obama went to a fancy school called Punahou School and graduated in 1979. After that, he went to Occidental College and then to Columbia University, where he studied political science.
Community Helper
After working for a company, Barack became a community organizer in Chicago. That means he helped people and communities. What a nice thing to do!
Law and Love
Barack didn’t stop learning. He went to Harvard Law School and became a really smart lawyer. And guess what? He met Michelle, another lawyer, and they got married in 1992. They make a great team!
